PCCC Career Fair: April 16th

On April 16th on the Paterson campus, PCCC is having the annual Spring Career Fair.

Employers looking for employees will be there. Whether you are a technology major or a liberal arts major, there are companies that you might be able to find work with. It's a great opportunity to get to interact a little bit with potential employers, learn what questions to ask, etc. If you are going, you should definitely bring some copies of your resume so they can contact you!

Again, that's April 16, from 11 AM to 3 PM, in the gymnasium in Paterson, and of course, it's free to attend.

I am glad to see PCCC trying to help its students find work. But it is a shame that they missed something that is obvious to me. A great many students (full time and part time)have jobs during the day and cannot afford to take the time off in the middle of a work week. I don't understand why they can't make some of these career fairs and other activities at night or weekends, so that all students can be included.

That's really a great point. I don't know if it is an issue of employers not wanting to send someone after hours or what (I bet that's what they are going to say when I ask). I just sent an email to the folks in charge. It might be something they take in to account in the future, then again, maybe not, but your point has been made to them.

I'd like to mention one point about resumes, specifically e-mail addresses on resumes. In short: KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL!

A professional e-mail should be a first initial or name followed by your last name whenever possible. I recommend NOT using your professional e-mail to sign up for social networking sites, etc. Use your "fun" e-mail for those. Recruiters and prospective employers are less likely to take you seriously with e-mail addresses like "hot2trot@yahoo.com" or "bigstud4yu@hotmail.com"!

David, this is an excellent point. I bring this up in my CIS 101 classes when I talk about "netiquette". I had one student who used to miss class a lot - this was back when I received assignments via email. So, I would receive emails from "blazinbob420" or something similar to that. Blazin, of course, is slang for "smoking pot" and 420 is another code for smoking pot. When he used to miss class (he did quite often) and say he was sick, what do you think I thought?
