2009-2010 PCCC Scholarships - deadline extended to May 1

PCCC has made a bunch of scholarships available again this year. The deadline to apply is April 2nd MAY 1, 2009 at 4:30 PM. You can get applications in the Center for Student Success (Paterson) or the main offices in Wanaque or Passaic. You will likely need a letter of recommendation for this, so if you know of any faculty members who would recommend you, reach out soon.

As I've stated before, scholarships are a great thing to apply for. At worst, they say no, and at best, you pick up a little extra cash to help pay for school. I personally came from a family where I was the first person to go to college, and I didn't have a lot of money to pay for school. I did get two scholarships that helped a lot - without them, I don't know what I would have done. I received thousands of dollars a year in free money, because some groups wanted to provide opportunities for people like me.

Here are the general descriptions they sent us over the email. You will see some say "see additional requirements" - these are in the packets that they have in the offices.

Albert Payson Terhune	Part-time student, minimum 3.0 GPA, see additional requirements.
Eileen Thompson Academic Achievement	College level student, minimum 3.5 GPA, see additional requirements.
Professor Elaine C. Harrington	Full-time student, minimum of 12 college credits, minimum 3.0 GPA, NJ resident, see additional requirements.
Elizabeth Steinberg Memorial	Must have completed ESL or developmental courses, minimum 2.0 GPA, accumulated less than 24 credits, have unmet financial need.
Emmett & Evelyn Jones	May be part-time (minimum 6 credits); preference to GPA over 2.5, see additional requirements.
ESL Achievement	Current ESL student, minimum of 18 credits, minimum of 3.0 GPA.
Helyn and Larry Doby Memorial	Good academic standing, taking a minimum of 6 credits, demonstrates personal integrity, see additional requirements.
Manuel V. Lagos	Full-time student, involvement in PCCC activities or community service, minimum of 24 college level credits, see additional requirements.
Nursing Scholarships	Students accepted into the nursing program may also apply for scholarship aid through the department (office PAC 223).
Richard Pirozzi Memorial	Good academic standing with financial need, see additional requirements.
Rosalie Hojegian Memorial	May be part-time (minimum 9 credits), min. 3.0 G.P.A., see additional requirements.
Verizon	Matriculated student, minimum of 3.0 GPA, New Jersey resident, ineligible for other financial aid.

MLK Scholarship 2009-2010

This is the time of year for scholarships!

PCCC can nominate one student for this award.

The NJ Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission is proud to announce the 2008 - 2009 King Scholarship Program. Established in 1999 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the King Scholarship Program recognizes NJ college students for their academic and extracurricular achievements to further the causes championed by the civil rights leader. Scholarships in the amount of $5000 are awarded annually.

Students must submit their application and supporting documentation to the Office of the Dean for Evening Administration/Associate Dean for Student Affairs (E101) by the deadline of May 14, 2009.

Eligibility Requirements

• Show evidence that they intend to pursue a course of study in social work, labor, history, political science, divinity or religion, sociology, psychology or other fields that will enable them to further the causes championed by Dr.King.
• Have attained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Have demonstrated leadership ability through participation in community service, and/or co-curricular activities.
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident in the state of New Jersey.
• Must have completed 15 credits.

Scholarship Opportunity - 2009 Hispanic Business Council

The Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation is making available scholarships. Last year, one of the students at PCCC received a $1,000 book scholarship. Here are the requirements:

• The student must be of Hispanic Heritage
• The student must be a New Jersey Resident
• The student must be a high school senior entering college as a full time student in the Fall of 2009 OR be enrolled as a full-time college student carrying 15 credits per semester (12 credits may be accepted at the discretion of the HBCSF) and have a current GPA of at least 3.0. The student is required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 in order to qualify for both the Fall 2009 and the Spring 2010 semester award distribution.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is open to any student who is currently attending a community college and planning to transfer to a four-year college/university in fall 2008. All candidates must be nominated by their community college. The foundation will not solicit or accept applications directly from students. Two (2) students can be nominated by their college.

At a minimum, to be eligible, students (candidates) must:

Be a current student at an accredited US community college or two year institution with sophomore status by December 31, 2007, or a recent graduate (since spring 2003).
Plan to enroll full-time in a baccalaureate program at an accredited college or university in fall 2008.
Have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
Be nominated by his or her two-year institution.
Have unmet financial need.
Not previously nominated for a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Program scholarship.
The award amount will be variable up to a maximum of $30,000 annually to fund tuition, and fees for the remainder of the scholar’s undergraduate degree. The deadline for applying is January 25, 2008.

Honorable Nicholas G. Mandak Memorial Scholarship

The Passaic County Bar Association is pleased to sponsor the Honorable Nicholas G. Mandak Memorial Scholarship.

The Honorable Nicholas G. Mandak Memorial Scholarship is open to any student residing in Passaic County, attending college to undertake a course of study in the law, criminal justice, paralegal education, and classes for Police or Sheriff's officers. In addition, eligible students may not have already been receiving or awarded a full tuition scholarship or waiver of tuition or fees from another source.

The criteria for the scholarship is to complete an application demonstrating need, together with any additional information which addresses any special needs or circumstances which you believe should be brought to the attention of the Foundation, as well as two letters of recommendation. Official college transcripts, school activities and extracurricular activities will also be considered.

The completed application with all accompanying information must be returned to the Passaic County Bar Foundation by February 28, 2007.

Datatel Scholars Foundation Scholarship

Posted this earlier, but the scholarship deadline is approaching!

The Datatel Scholars Foundation is pleased to announce its 2007 - 2008 academic year scholarship competition. Four unique scholarships are being offered, ranging in value from $1000 to $2500.

Datatel Scholarships Foundation scholarships - are awarded to outstanding students currently attending Datatel client institutions (PCCC is a Datatel client institution).

Angelfire scholarships - is presented to outstanding students who served in the Asian theater (Vietnam, Laos, and/or Cambodia) between 1964 and 1975. Spouses and children of Vietnam veterans, and refugees of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam are also eligible. In addition, scholarships are awarded to military personnel who have served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Returning Student scholarships - provides assistance to current outstanding students who have returned to higher education after an absence of five years or more.

Nancy Goodhue Lynch scholarships - are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students majoring in information technology related curriculum programs.

Please encourage students to apply early and allow their recommenders enough time to write their letters of support.

Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of NJ Scholarship

The Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of NJ has available multiple scholarships of up to $4000 each to be awarded to students attending college full-time during the 2007 - 2008 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

Each applicant must be:

* Hispanic (one parent must be fully Hispanic).

* A U.S. Citizen or a legal permanent resident.

* A permanent resident of New Jersey.

* A full-time college freshman in the Fall 2007, carrying 15 credits per semester & have a GPA of 3.0.

Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2007.

Accenture Junior & Community College Scholarship Program

Program Guidelines

Accenture has established a scholarship program to assist junior & community college students who plan to pursue a baccalaurete degree in high technology and business fields. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university of the student's choice. If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Accenture Junior & Community College Scholarship Program must be students who -

* Are currently enrolled at an accredited two-year junior or community college.

* Plan to transfer to an accredited four-year college or university in the fall 2007 as a full-time student majoring in

high technology or business fields.

* Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

* Possess required qualifications and work authorization which does not require sponsorship by Accenture for a

visa.
